In his article, Did Disney shape how you see the world?, Richard Gray, editor at the BBC, presents a number of pros and cons to Disney's influence on current and future generations. Read the article and list the positive and the negative things about Disney. Feel free to add more points to your list inspired by our previous class discussion or your own perception.
Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs was the first feature-film Disney produced in 1937, however, the original fairytale was first written down and published in Grimms' Fairy Tales, numbered as Tale 53.
1. Dust off your knowledge of the fairy tale genre and try to highlight some of the genre characteristics.
2. Analyse the fairy tale focusing on setting, themes and characters.
Instructions
These are instructions for an approximately three-lesson student-driven project on the subject of Disney. In groups you are to prepare a presentation on one of Disney/Pixar's short films of your own choice. Your presentation must be at least 10-15 minutes long.
Requirements
Research: A lot of the Disney/Pixar's deal with different cultures. Try to research the different cultures and obtain an understanding of the things presented in your film.
A problem formulation: You must create a problem formulation that is based on Bloom's taxonomy. Your problem formulation must seek to incorporate themes and terms related to the general subject and film analysis.
Presentation: The presentation must be at least 10 minutes long (not including watching the short film) and the analysis must of course be presented in English. All group members must participate verbally in the presentation.
Log book: After each lesson you must update a Google docs (please forward it to mikkelrosendal1988@gmail.com) that details your work during the lesson. It does not have to be thorough. Notes, scribbles, lists, ideas etc. are more than welcome.
Cue-cards: Try to bring printed or written cue-cards for your presentation, instead of your computers.
