The British Raj is a term used to refer to the British rule in India that lasted from 1857 - 1949. The rule was established after the Indian Rebellion on 1857 and lasted until India's independence in 1947. Subsequently, the British Raj was divided into on modern-day India and Pakistan.
The caste system is a social hierarchy particularly amongst the Hindus in India. The order of the castes is a complex construction based on occupation and heritage. A person is born and remains in a certain class from life to death, although extremely difficult for the individual to influence, the status of said class can be improved over time.
